這首歌的原唱者為一希臘籍的團體—愛神之子合唱團（Aphrodite's child），而這首歌最特別的地方，在於它是由著名的古典作品「卡農」（Canon ）改編而成。
「卡農」是古典音樂中一種特定的曲式，最著名的是巴洛克時期德籍作曲家帕 海貝爾的作品。
「雨和淚」是運用帕海貝爾的「卡農」和弦填上新的旋律所產生的 一首歌。
愛神之子合唱團的團員都受過古典音樂的訓練，其中的鍵盤手特別值得一提。
這位鍵盤手名叫范吉利斯（Vangelis），後來他努力鑽研電子音樂，推出很多膾炙人口的作品，國內有很多電視廣告或節目都曾引用他的作品作為背景音樂。
